The Honan Chapel - Gallery Collection
| Image Title | Honan Collection: black antependium (detail) |
| Description | The antependium hung in front of the altar. The design is copied from the cross inscribed on the 8th century cross-slab from Tullylease, Co. Cork. The black set of hangings and vestments was used for the annual Founders´ Day Mass, which took place in the third week of October, and was the ceremonial memorial for the Honan family. The back is inscribed with the names of the women who worked on them. It was designed by Caitin Nic Cormaic and Evelyn Gleeson. The seamstress of the Dun Emer Guild who worked on this were Kate Dempsey; Josephine Mulhall; Siobain Nà Dilluin; Christina Fanning; Mary Perry; Shelia Stapleton; and Mary Kerley. This item has been catalogued by Virginia Teehan & Elizabeth Wincott Heckett in The Honan Chapel: A Golden Vision published by Cork University Press in 2004. This item is in storage and are in need of conservation. |
