The Honan Chapel - Gallery Collection
| Image Title | Honan Collection: Benediction candlesticks (detail) |
| Description | The candlesticks are a mixture of brass, copper and silver-plate. Weithing animal brackets support the sloping candleholders. The decoration resembles 12th century Irish metalwork influenced by the Ringerike and Urnes styles of Viking art. These styles has a restless quality, often featuring contorted and distorted animals or more correctly zoomorphic designs. The style also betrays Art Nouveau influence. This item has been catalogued by Virginia Teehan & Elizabeth Wincott Heckett in The Honan Chapel: A Golden Vision published by Cork University Press in 2004. |
