DescriptionIn the Honan Chapel, the monstrance was used at the exposition, adoration and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. This silver, gilt and enamel monstrance was designed by William A. Scott, professor of architecture, University College Dublin. It is topped by a small Celtic cross and is supported on an octagonal shaft and base. The base carries the shields of the Honan Hostel and Chapel; Rev. Sir John Robert O┬┤Connell; University College Cork; Munster; the diocese of Cork, Cashel and Waterford. The inscription reads: Pray for the souls of Matthew, Robert and Isabella Honan by whose charity and piety this monstrance to show forth the body of the Lord was made for the Chapel of St. Fin Barr of the Honan Hostel Cork, by the order of Sir John Robert O┬┤Connell, Doctor of Law designed from designs William Alphonsus Scott, Professor of Architecture in the National University of Ireland made by Edmond Johnson Dublin AD 1916.
