The Honan Chapel - Gallery Collection
| Image Title | Honan Collection: the lunette (wafer-holder) |
| Description | Opening the hinged door of the silver-gilt host carrier we see a silver-gilt ring used to hold the consecrated host in place. This is the lunette. The consecrated host was understood as the Body of Christ and therefore could not be carelessly handled. This is the reason for the host being held in place by the lunette within the carrier. This item has been catalogued by Virginia Teehan & Elizabeth Wincott Heckett in The Honan Chapel: A Golden Vision published by Cork University Press in 2004. |
