"To promote child health, and meet the needs of sick children in Munster and beyond, through excellence in education and research."
The Dept of Paediatrics and Child Health is a busy department delivering student centred teaching and learning and active research at its core. Our aim is to provide academic leadership in fostering and supporting excellence in teaching and research.
We cater for approximately 400 students per year who complete 4 week attachments under our guidance in Fourth and Final Medicine undergraduate programme. The undergraduate course is delivered in 6 sites (Cork University Hospital, Mercy University Hospital, Bon Secours Hospital Cork, Kerry University Hospital, Waterford University Hospital and South Tipperary General Hospital) offering students learning in a clinical environment. Teaching is led on these sites by our Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturers and tutors.
Our postgraduate students undertaking MD’s and PhD’s are expanding every year.
We undertake our clinical research as part of the INFANT Centre and CRF in a number of areas including allergy, newborn brain injury and improved diagnostics. Three of our academic staff are Principal Investigators in the INFANT Centre.
