Welcome to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at UCC.
We offer world-class, student-centred, academic programmes, informed by the latest research and reinforced by clinical practice."
On behalf of my colleagues, I would like to welcome you to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at UCC.
We pride ourselves on a thriving, student-centred, academic programme, informed by world-class research and reinforced by thorough clinical training. Attracting the next generation of consultant obstetrician and gynaecologists is a key responsibility of the UCC Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Our aim is to lead the development of teaching and research in obstetrics and gynaecology in Ireland and to become a centre of excellence internationally. As primary academic partner to the four maternity hospitals that make up the Maternity Directorate of the South/Southwest Hospital Group, we offer students placements in Cork University Maternity Hospital and the maternity units in University Hospital Waterford, University Hospital Kerry and South Tipperary General Hospital. The academic agenda is fully integrated with the delivery of clinical care across these four maternity hospitals alongside a broad range of educational and research activities.
Over 200 undergraduate medical students are taught in our department each year in programmes of obstetrics and gynaecology. We also provide extensive postgraduate educational opportunities for doctors in training with our Masters of Science (MSc) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
We hope you enjoy your time with us and consider a career in obstetrics and gynaecology in due course.
