The current post-primary Physical Education curriculum landscape suffered significant changes, with profound implications for pedagogy and assessment at school level, and for the teacher education programmes.  A partnership between schools and the SSPE programme is critical for the development of the respective curriculums, pedagogies and assessment for better student-learning experiences.

The CoP will be mostly facilitated by the following UCC SSPE staff:

  • João Costa
  • Manolis Adamakis
  • Conchur O Muimhneachain

During the year, the CoP will meet 3 times, once per term close to the midterm week, for face-to-face collaborative work on a selected topic for the year. For the 2019-2020 year, following the first 2 meetings held in 2018-2019, the topic will be Assessment in PE/Wellbeing for the Junior Cycle, considering that it will be the first year when the Junior Cycle students will have PE included in their Profile of Achievement as part of Wellbeing.

During the meetings, the CoP will:

  • Discuss authentic cases shared by the members
  • Receive up-to-date research briefings and papers
  • Develop practical teaching and learning resources to support assessment in 2 different strands, aiming for
    •  inclusion
    • authenticity
    • meaningfulness

Between meetings, the members will have access to an online learning environment to follow-up with the sessions through sharing of resources, experiences, and discussion forums.

While it is possible to informally participate (free of the administrative fees) in any number of CoP meetings, the CPD certificate can only be requested with attending the 3 meetings which can then be presented as evidence of engaging with the Cosán Framework.

This CPD offering is open to practising teachers of Physical Education at post-primary level.
