Autism Friendly Space - Old College Bar
An increasing number of students on the Autism Spectrum are progressing to UCC every year and they find the College environment, both physical and academic, to be challenging for a variety of reasons. To become a more inclusive environment for this cohort of students UCC must look at how these students can be supported from pre-entry to employment or further education.
The University's strategic plan 2017-2022 lists as its core values; Equality, Integrity, Diversity and Respect. With this in mind the Office of the Deputy President and Registrar together with the Students Union is developing the Old Bar space on central campus to create an autism friendly space. The refurbished facility will provide facilities for Students on the Autism Spectrum. The works consist of the refurbishment of the old college bar into a sensory sensitive space for autistic college students. The proposed ground floor will consist of toilets, changing space and multi function room. The first floor will consist of a calm space; break out spaces, sensory rooms, and reception and respite rooms.
