Cavanagh Bridge wins 2019 RIAI Award
The Cavanagh bridge UCC has won a 2019 Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) Architecture Award for “Best Public Space”.
The bridge and riverside walk act as a crucial link in the chain of connection between the campus and the Western Road and provides access for students, staff and members of the public to a new green space in UCC’s lower grounds. In accordance with UCC signing the All Ireland Pollinator Plan, this green space is now thriving as a wildflower meadow which serves an important role in the creation of habitats for bees and other pollinators.
The Cavanagh bridge, designed by O’Donnell + Tuomey, forms part of the UCC campus masterplan and extends the connection of the campus with Cork and its community. The bridge is open to the public from 8am-7pm.
